But somehow I have grown to appreciate them. I don't know why. I think that they are particularly useful for photographers, too. Is that what sparked your interest?

Kara said: Hi, Eva! I'm glad that you don't think my dolls are creepy any more. 😆 When I first saw these dolls a few years ago, I wasn't too sure about them either. I wasn't creeped out by them, but I wasn't sure I care for their looks. However, as time went on, I realized there was a large variety of BJDs out there and some greatly appealed to me. Then, this spring, I saw one that just clicked with me. And, actually, it was owning the dolls that got me interested in photography. I think it's fun to dress them up and then take pictures of them.

I find it interesting that so many people are creeped out by dolls—you're totally not alone in your feelings about them. I was watching a Twilight Zone marathon the other day and noticed that a lot of their stories have to do with dolls, mannequins, or puppets. I think it's a deep seated fear in humans—the inanimate mimicking life. haha Listen to me…this could be a journal entry in and of itself.

Those boots look awesome, so shiny! Ethyn looks all relaxed on these pics, like he is ruling the world or something. I love how you positioned his eyes slightly on the side, that give him a mysterious edge.
I think I have that Catherine the great book somewhere (in French, of course), but I haven't read it yet. My mom, who loves Troyat's books, gave me 4 or 5 novels from him. But I haven't read them all yet. I like his style.

Kara said: Thank you! I so love those boots. Tall boots and long, flowing coats or cloaks on men are one of my weaknesses. Heck…I even think Darth Vader is kind of hot because of his cape and boots. hehe

Looks like I'm going to have to pick up some of these books. I'm getting very intrigued.

Catherine the Great by Henri Troyat

I was wondering if Ethyn could model the boots and just the hat sometime for me? Yes, just the boots and fuzzy hat.

Kara said: haha, Lani! You're so funny. Just the boots and the hat, huh? Now I'm intrigued. I'll have to add that to my list of future photo shoots. I bet he'd look great in black and white. Artistic nudes and all that… And thanks for the name of the book.

I also read Rasputin's Daughter and finished the Kitchen Boy before I left for Maine. I am really into that time period of Russian History. Lani and I are into the same thing. I would also like the name of the book on Catherine the Great. You have talent!!!!!! Love, Mom

Kara said: Thanks, Mom! Ethyn is a lot of fun to photograph. I'm trying to find out the name of the Catherine the Great book from Lani. She said it was in the bibliography section of her library and that she'd check the next time she was there.

I'm in – when's the movie playing? It's funny because I'm in a VERY Russian mood. I just finished 'Rasputin's Daughter' and now I'm reading 'The Kitchen Boy' by Robert Alexander. I've got my eye on a library book on Catherine the Great next. By the by, where did Ethyn get those boots? I love them!!!

Kara said: Well, Ethyn always aims to please. 😉 Next photo shoot will be harem-inspired…male harem. What's the book on Catherine the Great? I've always been interested in her. Oh, and Ethyn got his awesome boots from Doll Heart (go to "Shop" > "Doll Shoes" > "Shoes for 10/13SD Boy"). He can't stand in them worth a damn, but they are shiny and sexy so I don't care.
