Pirate of the Strait

October 4th, 2007

This picture and the one following are very similar. But, I find it interesting how different he looks depending on whether he's in the shade or in the sun.

Oh, by the way, I made that necklace. I'm kind of proud of it.

I love this one. He looks almost real.

You know what? I just realized I took these pictures on Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19th). I didn't even plan it that way (I had totally forgotten about it actually. It wasn't until I got home from vacation that I noticed). I love serendipity.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! (But then again, with Dom how could it be anything but? 😀 ) May I say that not only he, but all the photos look amazing? Because they do.
I am writing this at my cousin's house and he (a HUGE BJD fan) is currently squeeing behind me at the pics – and at Dom. He has a number of dolls now (with another boy on order at the moment) and he thinks your work with Dom and Ethyn is fantastic. I also have begged a doll out of my parents so now all I have to do is choose (yay! I'm really excited about that!) but there are so many! But your pictures are making me more interested in BJDs than ever. 😀
That necklace you made for Dom is really pretty, BTW. You seem to have a knack for making pretty jewellery for your guys. Great work!

Kara said: Hi, Amalinaball! And thank you so much! I'm actually so relieved that the pictures turned out. I hadn't really taken many pictures outside with my new camera and it was hard to tell if they were coming out because the LCD screen on the back was so hard to see in the sunlight. haha! If you don't mind my asking, what dolls does your cousin have? Also, you must let me know which one you end up getting (yeah, I'm so nosy!). I'm so excited for you! Oh, and I love making jewelry for my guys—both BJD and Sim. It's fun.

Ok, so you know how weirded out I was to begin with…now I actually don't even see them the same way anymore. It took some time, but now I love them. And Dom is quite the sexy beast..isn't he? A rebel that smokes AND is a pirate. He's so cute…I love his nose. At first it seemed sort of awkward..but now I just love it. I guess it just takes some getting used to. OH! and I LURVE the necklace. It's sooo pretty. It caught my eye immediately and I swear I though "Man that's nice" And then I thought" I would love to have one JUST like it." You should be proud of your work, it's amazing. You should start to make things for BJD's!!

Kara said: Hi, Eva! Isn't Dom's nose great? It's one of my favorite things about him (besides his lovely, manly muscles…hehe). It gives him a very unique look in the BJD world. And I'm so glad you like the necklace too! I definitely want to make some more necklaces for my guys sometime.

Isn't it funny how some of the things we may not like before and then eventually come around to end up being some of our favorite things? In addition to BJDs and anime (I used to not like anime when I was first exposed to it, but now I love a lot of it), I know music can be that way for me. Sometimes I may not care for an album the first time I listen to it. But it's always the albums that I may not like at first and then come to love on repeated listenings that remain my faves for a long time.

Because you asked: my cousin has four dolls, with a fifth on order, but he went away yesterday (he is going up to Whitby for some sort of Gothic outing) and won't be back until 2 weeks' time. He took his first and favourite doll (called Aaron, I believe) with him; I know he in particular was very expensive, mainly because my cousin bought him from a Korean company quite a while before they were popular in the US and Europe. Now if only I could remember where the rest are all from…hmmm…
I have spent most of the day searching for a doll that I like. There are some ok-ish girl ones but my raging young woman's body (heh heh heh) is leaning towards a male. It will make up most of my Christmas present from my parents so I'm trying to choose now so that there is plenty of time to get an order sorted out. My dad's eyes bulged when he saw the prices of some of them, but I had to explain that most of the prices are shown in either Yen or Dollars and that made him breath a sigh of relief! The deal is that I'll get a doll, wig and a few outfits for him (or possibly her) for Christmas. I can't get an overly-realistic doll either because my sister is terrified of anything lifelike that's not actually alive. I've told a few friends over the internet – but they all think they're creepy! So I've told them to wait until I get one, and see if it will change their minds. Ah! Decisions, decisions!
Sorry if all that was more than you needed to know…heh heh heh… I've bored my whole family to tears today talking about BJDs. 😀

Kara said: hehe Hey, I'm always open to talking about BJDs especially since I have a tendency to bore my poor husband to tears about them. Poor guy…he's just not that interested in them, but at least he humors me. So, feel free to talk to me about them. And, I got my male dolls for the same reason—'cause of my hormones. However, I have my eye on a particular girl as well. I can't wait to see which doll you end up getting whether it be a guy or a girl.
