Joe Meets Jack
September 6th, 2012
I've admired 12" collectible action figures since I first found out about them a few years ago, but I didn't want to start collecting yet another type of doll. However, last month, I saw photos of Xhanthi's newest doll Jack Sparrow. Well, it was love at first sight. I ran out of willpower and got my first action figure (I also got my second…haha…you'll see photos of him later). Plus, Joe really needs a mentor to teach him to become a better pirate, right? ๐
Hmm…I'm beginning to think that having Jack around is a bad idea. You just know Joe is going to be hanging on his every word. ๐
Extras:
I'm really impressed with the presentation of the DX-edition Hot Toys figures. The box is much bigger than you'd expect for a 12" figure. The wrap-around cover of the box is held closed with a magnetic flap and then swings open to reveal some text descibing the infamous Jack Sparrow on one side and his special pirate flag on the other, which leads me to mention another thing I love about the DX-editions of figuresโthey have a ton of accessories.
The textual frontispiece:
"Freedom incarnate, he will do anything to remain free; perceived as habitual liar, but will often only tell only the truth; perceived as a coward but often risks his life for others and for what is right; a trickster and manipulator who is up front and honest about how he plans to rob you blind; traits include a slight stagger, sometimes unfocused gaze, slurred speech and flailing hands, all often used to throw off potential opponents; a ladies' man, who can't hold onto the ladies; bad personal hygiene, including a chronic case of halitosis; eyes are distinguished by coal black rings around his eyelashes. He is over-his-head on a quest to find the exclusive Fountain of Youth, and has met his match in the woman who stole his heart."
Cap'n Jack Sparrow's pirate flag:
"'There should be a "Captain" in there somewhere.'"
I think this quote is especially appropriate considering that once you lift off the foam layer containing the flag, Captian Jack is right there in the next layer staring back at you. ๐

Boy Dad and I enjoyed this segment, especially after seeing Joe and Captain Jack in person. They are fantastic dolls and good thing Joe now has a smaller sword of his own. I loved the captions and the way the setups are photographed.
