Isle Challenge #1
June 8th, 2008
On flickr, I belong to a photography group called Isle of Misfit Toys that is "both a critique and a photo challenge board for BJD dolls." We had the first challenge this week.
Challenge #1 Triptych: DOF and Crop
The challenge was to create a triptych of your doll to practice various photography and editing techniques. The first picture was to be a full to 3/4 body shot that was fully in focus with the aperture of the camera stopped down below f/9. For the second picture, you were to zoom or move in closer to the doll and open the aperture to f/4 or below to demonstrate depth of field/bokeh (the blurring effect). The third picture was then to be cropped out of the first picture to highlight a point of interest.
Picture 1: Full body shot, fully in focus. Shot at f/22 (to make sure I got everything in focus…heh…probably a bit of overkill, but, oh well.)
Picture 2: Example of depth of field. Shot at f/5.6 (kind of against rules, but I wanted most of his face in focus so I made an artistic decision. It still has bokeh.)
No close-up of the third picture, as it really looks better as small as possible.

Is it just me or does he look SO much hotter in close-ups?

It's just not!
Still he's a angel in devil's clothing!
HOTNESS is not enough to describe him!

Fantastic detail and depth of perspective. Yes he does look hotter close up but on the Harley–he also looks hot. Love the Harley also. Love, Mom
Good luck and have fun!!!!

I second you on that!
He's actually just a big softie underneath all that attitude (especially to Brandee) ::-*:
