X-posted with Worlds Apart, my Sims site

Author's Note:  For those of you not familiar with my Sims story The Monster and the Maiden, here is a quick introduction to the characters who appear here:

Edmond le Strange: Edmond is a mage who fled France for America after coming under the thrall of a curse. This curse turned him into a creature that feeds on blood although he is insistent that he's not a vampire. During the main story line of The Monster and the Maiden, he tries to find a way to rid himself of the curse.

Emily Shadowtalon: Emily is obsessed with learning anything and everything she can about the supernatural. In fact, in university, she majored in paranormal studies and became a paranormal investigator after she graduated. In The Monster and the Maiden, she first meets Edmond le Strange when she's a child. This fueled her obsession with the paranormal as she was convinced that he was a vampire. He insisted he was not, but she knows he's hiding something and she will not give up until she figures out his secret.

Tahlvin Shadowtalon: Tahlvin is an elf and a mercenary for the Wraith Warriors, an organization owned and run by his family. He is also Emily's father.

This little photostory can be considered as taking place in the future, after the main story is over (I'll do my best not to reveal any major spoilers from the main storyline).

What a surprise! A nice blending of both sites. (glad you are back :D) What an interesting little set up you have there. . .is it me or does the bottle of Snapple say lip balm? and why does Edmond have a nicer mobile than me? I totally want to see an outtake with a kitty's paw in the way (ha, ha, ha).

  2. Maranwet says:

Oh, this is such a treat! I love your sims story. Edmond is dreamy, and all those small accessories add so much life to the shoot (I used to have same glasses Edmond does 😀 ).
Congratulations on getting your Emily!!! Hope to see her here soon.

@Lani: I'm glad to be back too! And, the Snapple is lip balm actually. So you weren't just seeing things. haha Amazingly enough, the kitties stayed away while I was taking pictures. I think they are so used to me running them off now that they usually only hover on the periphery of the scene and look longingly at the dolls. 😉

@Maranwet: I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! 😀 I had fun with all the accessories. It's taken me awhile to collect the small amount I have, but now that I see how much they can add to a scene, I want to get more. 🙂

Emily will make her appearance soon. I took pictures of her and Edmond last night. I think, they look perfect together!

I've been following your website for quite a while and I wanted to say how much I love all your dolls. They are incredible and I love the characters that embody all of them.

I'm new to BJD collecting, just recently got my first doll and I'm still trying to get my head around it all.

Your dolls are very inspiring and I love what you do with them and how you photograph them.

I'm looking forward to seeing Edmond and Emily together.

By the way, how do you find the jointed hands? I'm thinking of getting a pair for my SD boy in a couple of months. They look very very poseable.

  5. Kara says:

@Delune: Thank you so much! I have fun with my dolls and love them a lot so I'm glad that comes through in my photos.

Congratulations on getting your first doll! It can be a little overwhelming in the beginning, can't it? What doll did you get?

And, yes, I absolutely love the jointed hands. They can be a little finicky (i.e. the tips of the fingers or the joints will sometimes twist around so you have to keep an eye on that so they don't look unnatural in photos), but it's fun to pose them. I'd like to get some thin wire to put inside the fingers so they hold poses even better.

Also, thank you for commenting! :XO:

I must try and hunt down info about this wiring I keep coming across. My SD boy's arm keeps snapping back and not holding his position properly.

Thank you, I must admit when I bought him, I didn't do as much research as I should have and thought ebay was the only place you could buy them from. I am still amazed by the number of companies that make them!

I got a Doll Family 'Lyre'. I do love him but he's naked right now. I made the mistake of not ordering anything for him so now I am waiting for everything to arrive and the waiting game requires so much patience! I hadn't realised how much waiting time is required for everything.

  7. Kara says:

@Delune: I just looked up Lyre on DoA. He's a really good-looking guy! Congrats!

You're right, his arm snapping back may be fixed by wiring or hot glue sueding. There's an article on bjd_wtf that explains both. There's also a post on DoA with many links to wiring and sueding guides. Hopefully that will help.

Oh, I know. This hobby really tests your patience. haha You have to wait for everything. I've gotten used to it, but it doesn't make the waiting any easier.

  8. Delune says:

Thanks for those links Kara. The question is, am I brave enough to attempt it.

I'm on DoA as shirahime. I don't really post there that often but I've found their BJD database to be really helpful particuarly as I've heard company photos can be rather misleading.

I also meant to say I love what you did with the MiniFee ShuShu girl. She was one I had been looking at off and on. It is good to see owner pics of the dolls I might be interested in.

  9. Kara says:

@Delune: It is a bit nerve-wracking the first time working on your doll. But, I've found that it really helps you bond with your doll and feel more comfortable with them. Not to mention, it's kind of fun…or at least I think so. 🙂

I agree with you. It really helps to see owner pics of dolls. Company photos either don't do the doll justice or make them look better than they really are. And I'm glad you like my Shushu. Thank you! I've had a lot of fun with her. 😀
